THE SONGS THE BAND THE ALBUMS THE NEWS
thin line

I'm a huge fan of the 90's band Conception, and other Conception fans might recognize different elements from several Conception songs within Wicked---a bass line from this song, a guitar riff from that one. Wicked serves as a sort of medley-tribute in this way, a tip of the hat to one of my favorite bands of all time. The chorus for Wicked was written while I was visiting Mexico---I had to call my cell phone to record the different parts before I lost them---and astute listeners can probably pick up on the Mexican influence there, too.

Lyrics:
Mad props to Conception. Wood cuts out of life. I'm wicked, all the veins decry. You can strain the pike in. Cross and dot mannequin. Geritol, fit the flesh to crawl. Stop. Slow it down, now. Stop. Reach inside. Lend me your hand. 'Cause there's still time. Neivete. Your place or mine. You're moaning, "Oh, sublime." You hold the flame. For all mankind. Give it to me! That shit is mine. You'll give it all in time. You've met your own deadline. All I seek is right here in front of me. Now the limbs are straining, sustaining. Diaspora. Pa invoke Legba. My finale. This uncanny valley. Just resign. Bound Loa divine.

Insights and Interpretations:
From Barry, 2010: We have written a song dealing with every other form of religious viewpoint or dogma, so it was only a matter of time before we explored voodoo. If you want to freak yourself out, do a search for some of the names and terms mentioned in the song. If you don't know who Pa Legba is, I'm not going to be the one to tell you. People get into trouble for that sort of thing.
