Watch Obol's song Revolucion

WATCH REVOLUCION >

Revoluçión is a combination of three catchy song fragments that all came about from different dreams: Fuckina, Step, and Voodooman. Step, in particular, had a strong anti-authority message from the start: “What I’m gonna do, I’m gonna step over the line.” and that message has only gained traction since the pieces were put together into Revoluçión.

Lyrics:
You've got your devil smile on. My teeth begin to grate. My life in tatters around. The signs are clear as day. You've just kept pushing me down. You know I tried your way. That only got me so far. And I am in your way. Oh! I concede this point with the back of your hand, and oh! How you eat the backward shit they've been feeding me. Oh, I'm reborn! Just to tear apart all your abject convictions and oh! Corazon! So I tell myself "be still like a mountain." What I'm gonna do, I'm gonna step over the line. Step over the line. Step over the line. Resulting in another enemy. What I'm gonna do, I'm gonna step over the line. Step over the line. Step over the line. Resolve. And get myself some dignity. I reject authority. Just let them come for me. Hold tight to the gallows, baby---give in to the denouement---or reject authority. I'll drink to a different victor. Undo was has become an evil reality. One day Rome will fall and... some day Rome will fall. An evil reality. I see clearly now and there's nowhere to run to. Oh, it seems I've got you right where I want you. Oh, like me now? I will bleed your children and punish the measley Oh! Corazon! As I tell myself "be still like a mountain." What I'm gonna do, I'm gonna step over the line. Step over the line. Step over the line. Resulting in another enemy. What I'm gonna do, I'm gonna step over the line. Step over the line. Step. Line. You've got your devil smile on. My teeth begin to grate. My life in tatters around. This is the judgment day. You've just kept pushing me down. You know I tried your way. That only got me so far. And I am in your way.

Insights and Interpretations:
From Barry, 2010: This song started off being about standing up for oneself, even when you know it might mean a beating, torture, or death. Over time, it gradually become more revenge-oriented and maniacal, until it ultimately found a place on our first album where the protagonist basically loses it and attempts to exact revenge for all his perceived offenses.
