Watch Obol's song Bitter

WATCH BITTER >

One of my favorite melodies so far. This is a sister song to Uvula in that the melody is a reprise/variant of the chorus in Uvula, and the two songs form the cornerstone theme of the "Dreaming" album. Strangely enough, Bitter's chorus used to be in Clockwork, but the two pieces never got along that well, so I separated them into two different songs.

Lyrics:
When I'm gone, maybe the sun will fade. Carry on. That's what I will say, but I won't mean it. Metaphor for a long, drawn out, endless war. When I'm gone, maybe the sun will fade. All the way. Yeah, life has found the greatest point to tear me asunder. Yeah, I'm kind of cold and dead inside, from feeling important. Yeah, I'm lost without the toys I love, and feeling off-center. Yeah, hell. That's the way. That's the way. That's the way. What if all this pain just ends in darkness? What if all the virgins stayed in line? What if all that glitters isn't golden? Eventually we all get lost sometimes. And what if all this blame I place is mine? When I'm gone, carry my son away. Careless soul. Sleeping half the day. Heart's a song. If you let the damn blessings flow. When I'm gone, maybe the sun will fade. All the way. Yeah, life has found the greatest point to tear me asunder. Yeah, I'm kind of cold and dead inside, from feeling important. Yeah, I'm lost without the things I love, and feeling off-center. Yeah, hell. That's the way. That's the way. That's the way. What if all this pain just ends in darkness? What if all the virgins stayed in line? What if all this bitterness is pointless? Eventually we all get lost sometime. What if all this blame I place is mine?

Insights and Interpretations:
From Barry, 2012: People say I sound pissed in this song, but I like to think I sound sad. Written (and recorded) during a massive bout of self pity, and in early mixdowns you could hear me getting choked up.
